Election Commission to Visit J&K from August 8-10 to Prepare for Assembly Polls

Srinagar, Aug 2(KNB): The Election Commission of India, led by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, will embark on a three-day visit to Jammu and Kashmir from August 8-10 to assess the preparedness for the upcoming assembly elections. The visit comes ahead of the Supreme Court’s September 30 deadline for holding polls in the Union Territory.

Commissioner Kumar will be joined by Election Commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and S S Sandhu during the visit. This will be the commission’s second visit to Jammu and Kashmir, following their previous trip in March, where they assured political parties and citizens of the Union Territory that assembly elections would be held soon.

The commission’s visit aims to review the current state of preparedness for the polls, with scheduled meetings with political parties, the chief electoral officer, and the central forces coordinator in Srinagar. The visit follows the successful conduct of Lok Sabha elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which saw a record turnout, indicating a positive trend for the upcoming assembly elections.(KNB)
