District Kathua, Kulgam, Poonch dominate on day-1
JAMMU, Mar 11(KNB): Director Youth Services and Sports J&K, Gazanfar Ali inaugurated Under-19 Girls Volleyball Tournament in an impressive function at Khel Gaon, Nagrota, near here today.
The 3-day tournament, in which 17 district teams are taking part, is being organised by the District Youth Services and Sports Office, Jammu, under the overall supervision of Sukhdev Raj Sharma, DYSSO Jammu.
The districts of Poonch, Kathua and Kulgam dominated on day-1 of the tournament today.
District Poonch thrashed District Samba in a one-sided contest by 2-0 (25-02; 25-04) and got the better of District Doda in a close contest by 2-0 (25-20; 25-22), while District Kathua trounced District Kupwara by 2-0 (25-07; 25-02) and beat District Ganderbal by 2-0 (25-21; 25-01) and District Kulgam prevailed over District Budgam by 2-0 (25-20; 25-14) and got walkover against District Kishtwar.
In other matches of the day, District Jammu defeated District Bandipora by 2-0 ,(25-17; 25-07), District Baramulla drubbed District Pulwama by 2-0 (25-21; 25-01), District Udhampur defeated District Anantnag by 2-0 (25-04; 25-06), District Rajouri best District Shopian by 2-0 (25-19; 29-27), District Shopian got walkover against District Reasi and District Srinagar got walkover against District Ramban.
The matches were organised by a panel of experts drawn from the Department of Youth Services and Sports.
Speaking on the occasion, Director Sports lavished praise on the organisers for holding the event in a befitting manner.
He said that the Government is committed to promote sports in every nook and corner of the Union Territory.
He further said that apart from the routine activities to prepare teams for the SGFI tournaments, the Department organised many of snow skiing activities this season.
He lauded the organisers for providing good arrangements regarding technical facilities, Boarding & Lodging and refreshment of the players.
The Director Sports was also accompanied by the Deputy Director Youth Services and Sports, Jitender Mishra and Assistant Director, Mool Raj Uttam.(KNB)
