Srinagar 03 Jan(KNB): In a recent move towards supporting the families of deceased police personnel, Director General of Police R.R. Swain has approved a substantial sum totaling ₹3.72 crore for welfare relief and welfare loans.
A significant portion of this allocation, amounting to ₹2.20 crore, has been sanctioned as Special Welfare Relief to aid the dependents and legal heirs of 10 deceased police personnel. Additionally, welfare loans totaling over ₹1.51 crore have been granted to 119 serving police personnel to address their immediate financial requirements. Furthermore, a financial assistance of ₹02 lakh has been extended to the Next of Kin (NoKs) of two martyred Police officials.
The Special Welfare Relief, set at ₹22 lakh for each deceased personnel’s dependents or legal heirs, has been disbursed to the families of several deceased officers, including SI Ab Hamid, ASI Sukh Dev Singh, HC Mohammad Yaseen, HC Ichpaul Sing, HC Mohd Sadeeq, HC Kamal Kishore, SgCt. Daya Kishan, SgCt Kuldeep Singh, Ct Bilal Ahmad, and follower Altaf Hussain, who passed away while in service.
A portion of this relief, amounting to ₹1 lakh for each family or NoK, has already been provided by the Police Headquarters to assist with the last rites. These financial aids have been drawn from the Contributory Police Welfare Fund.
Additionally, welfare loans have been sanctioned for various purposes among the police personnel: ₹42 lakh for self-marriage, ₹1.50 lakh for marriage expenses of sons/daughters, ₹1.5 lakh for the higher or professional education of wards, and ₹1 lakh for technical education of a personnel’s son. Furthermore, smaller amounts of ₹50,000 each have been granted for specific purposes like circumcision or Akhandpath for the wards of two police personnel. These loans are reimbursable and recovered from the personnel’s salaries in monthly installments without any interest.
Moreover, the DGP has also sanctioned ₹1 lakh each in financial assistance for the marriage ceremonies of daughters belonging to the NoK of martyred Ct. Mushtaq Ahmad and Ct Raj Kumar.
The Police Headquarters administers numerous schemes catering to the welfare of its personnel and their families. These encompass provisions for the wards of police personnel and Special Police Officers (SPOs), support for the Noks of martyrs and their wards, as well as schemes tailored for retired police personnel and their spouses.(KNB)
