Srinagar, 02 August(KNB): Director General, Sports Authority of India convened a meeting with Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, Secretary, J&K Sports Council, and other officials to discuss the Dal Festival 2024, set to take place at the renowned Dal Lake in Srinagar.
The J&K Sports Council, in collaboration with SAI and National Sports Federations, will host a three-day water sports festival featuring a variety of events, including kayaking and canoeing, rowing, dragon boat racing, shikara race and many more. The festival aims to highlight the rich diversity of water sports and potential of J&K to host water sports events of grand scale.
The event is expected to attract 500-800 athletes, coaches, and officials from across the country. It will not only display the vibrant life on Dal Lake but also celebrate the cultural diversity of J&K with spectacular laser shows, music, and performances.
DG SAI, Sh. Sandip Pradhan, IRS expressed his commitment to fully supporting the event, emphasizing its role in showcasing Jammu & Kashmir’s rapidly growing sports culture and rich heritage. He noted, “J&K has the potential to host international events, and under the leadership of our Honorable Prime Minister, we will soon realize that potential.”
Secretary, Youth Services and Sports, J&K, Sh. Sarmad Hafeez, IAS, highlighted that the festival will be a platform to promote not just sports, but also tourism, handicrafts, arts, and the cultural heritage of J&K. He added that the establishment of Water Sports Centers in both divisions of the region will help produce more medal-winning athletes at national and international competitions.
Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Ms. Nuzhat Gull, assured that the athletes are well-prepared for the competition and emphasized that all necessary arrangements will be completed to ensure the event’s success.(KNB)
