Srinagar 12 December (KNB): The non-covid19 Indoor Patient Department (IPD) patients– who go to SKIMS Bemina (JVC)– are alleging that they are not being provided treatment despite Govt. order to treat all the patients. Even though the other hospitals of Srinagar and other districts are following the government order by looking after both Covid19 and general patients as well.
According to the National Health Mission (NHM) order, every state and UT hospitals in India should take in both Covid19 as well as Non-Covid19 patients for medical treatment.
However, the JVC hospital, a covid19-designated hospital, is still losing sight of IPD Non-Covid19 patients.
“We are not being treated at this hospital (JVC) and are directed to the other hospitals of Srinagar. The JVC is at a stone’s throw from here, but we (non-covid) are not being admitted at the hospital for now,” said a local patient from Bemina.
Meanwhile, the JVC’s apathy towards the admission of patients is also taking a toll on the studies of the medical students.
“The opening of IPD should be done promptly because the faculty is also anticipating for the same. The students who come to learn the medical practice are also suffering due to non-functioning of IPD,” said a doctor on the basis of anonymity.
He added, “It would be better to open the IPD so that patients could get treatment and students too would learn during the process.”
The footfall of non-covid19 OPD patients at the JVC hospital from 2nd November of this year till now is around a meagre 1500 count which distributes to only 36 patients per day for the treatment.
According to Kashmir News Bureau reports, the daily patients’ presence used to be a mammoth figure of 2000 in comparison to the current figure.
When KNB contacted with the Financial Commissioner Health and Medical Education Department, Atal Dulloo, he assured to raise the matter with the concerned authorities for the remedy of the issue.
As it is important to cater to every patient’s need and to overcome the things, which could undermine the health system, the hospital like JVC should reopen the IPD services for non-covid patients.
The Medical Superintendent of Skims, Bemina (JVC) Dr Shifa Deva said, “The OPD for the Non-covid19 patients is working form last one month and IPD is only open for the covid19 patients right now.”
She further said that most likely in the coming 15 to 20 days the IPD for non-covid19 patients will be resumed.
Speaking to KNB, Principal Skims Bemina Dr Riyaz Untoo said that the non-covid patients’ IPD would be started after shifting the Covid19 patient into the separate disaster wards once it is ready.
He complained, “JVC hospital is not having enough capacity and therefore needs to transfer the covid19 patients into disaster wards, away from the hospital building so that the non-covid19 patients could be accommodated. (KNB)
