Srinagar 17 May (KNB): Despite J&K Home Department designating several Jammu and Kashmir Police Service (JKPS) officers of batch 2001, as Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Government still posted them as Additional Superintendent of Police (Addl. SP).
On the 15th of May (Friday), in a major reshuffle in the Department of Police, the Government of Jammu and Kashmir ordered the transfer and posting of more than 50 officers, among which several officers from 2001 batch were posted as Addl. SPs of different districts.
But ironically, these JKPS officers of batch 2001 have been designated as SSPs on the J&K Home Department’s website and have been longing for an independent charge for years now.
The recent orders felt quite humiliating to the officers of batch 2001 as the Government neglected their experience in the department while issuing the fresh orders for transfer and posting.
While talking to Kashmir News Bureau, a few among these officers expressed disappointment and said that it was unjust for them not to be appointed for any of the independent charges in the Police Department.
One of the officer, on basis of anonymity, said, “We have been performing our duty tirelessly for years and to see that I, along with several other officers are being deprived of positions we deserve, just puts us in a state of despair.”
He said, “order after order for transfer and posting has been issued by the Government but it certainly feels unjust to still be appointed as Addl. SPs, despite being seniors in the department.”
Another officer, who also didn’t wish to be named, told KNB that whenever they had the opportunity to discuss the matter with senior officers; the only deserving thing was for an Independent post.
“We don’t have any demands, we only seek what is just for the officers from the batch,” he said, adding, “the Government can appoint us as commandants, staff officers, in vigilance department or Crime Investigation Department but assign us an independent charge as that is what we deserve now.”
Furthermore, these JKPS officers of 2001 batch requested the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir Manoj Sinha to look into the matter and provide them the opportunity to serve the society while being assigned the independent charge as such is deserved by them after years of service in the Police Department.
