Bandipora 16 December (KNB): The Block Diwas/Youm e Block, a part of ambitious Jan Abhiyan programme was observed in all the blocks of Bandipora district, during which officers listened to public issues, grievances and demands.
A statement issued to Kashmir News Bureau said that the Block Diwas was observed to take appraisal of local issues from the general public for accurate and on ground assessment and redressal of the same thereby providing governance to the public at their door steps.
Deputy Commissioner Bandipora Dr Owais Ahmad attended the Block Diwas at Mini Secretariat and interacted with the public as part of the Block Diwas besides reviewing the developmental activities taking place in the block, officials stated.
“Dr Owais was accompanied by Additional District Development Commissioner Afsar Ali Khan, Joint Director Planning Imtiyaz Ahmad, Assistant Commissioner Development Abdul Rashid Dass, District Panchayat Officer Nazir Ahmad Sofi besides and other senior officers of the district,” the statement read.
The statement read, “dozens of delegations besides scores of individuals called on the Deputy Commissioner and apprised him about the problems faced by them in day to day life,” adding that various issues regarding drainage, power supply, Rural road connectivity, sanitation, solid waste management, Bio-medical waste were discussed threadbare.
“The delegations include representatives of Panchayat Raj Institutions,” officials stated.
DC Bandipora gave patient hearing to the delegations and passed on-spot directions for redressal of their grievances.
He said that all the bottle necks that hinder developmental works in rural areas will be removed in consultation with PRIs.
“Various issues have already been settled and priority is given to settle issue at grass root level with the help of PRIs,” he added.
“Dr Owais sought the cooperation of Panchayat Raj Institutions in easing out the attestation process of labor forms and also stressed on judicious use of water and electricity to avoid frequent power cuts,” the statement read.
It stated that he also asked the representatives of PRI to help the administration in checking the conversion of agriculture land as it takes direct toll on the livelihood of the people.
As per the statement, he informed the people that the district administration is going to launch a Solid Waste Management programme in all the Municipal Committees and Municipal Councils of the district besides adopting a waste management plan for every Panchayat and to start with, the project will be launched in two Panchayats on pilot basis.
“He said the administration will also launch a massive cleanliness/sanitation drive across the district involving youth volunteers and students to clean our surroundings especially water bodies,” statement read.
“Dr Owais expressed satisfaction over the participation of people in ongoing DDC and Panchayat by-elections and urged people to participate in election for becoming a part of decision making body,” officials stated.
They added, “While interacting with the people, DC Bandipora said that conducting of public outreach programmes provides an important feedback for the government to tailor its interventions for the public good and reach to the doorstep of the people instead of them visiting the corridors of power in secretariat or other government offices.
“He said that public outreach programmes are an important part of effective governance and it takes every step to reach out to the people in their own localities,” the statement read, adding that Dr Owais said that the grievances registered by the people are being tracked personally and the grievance redressal mechanism is being monitored by the government.
“Similar program was held in Sumbal and Gurez where respective Sub-Divisional Magistrates interacted with the people and assessed the grievances of the people,” officials stated. (KNB)
