Srinagar 23 August (KNB): Central University of Kashmir (CUK) students on Monday held a protest in Srinagar, alleging that the University has been discriminatory in their policies for promotion of students from different departments and demanded hostel facility as well as conduction of examinations through virtual mode.
Raising slogan of Justice at Press Enclave of the City, a protesting student from the Legal Studies told reporters that they were told (by the University authority) that the students will be promoted but the University has been discriminatory as some departments promoted their students but some departments did not.
The student further said that the University recently issued a date-sheet and are compelling the students to visit the campuses so that exams can be conducted offline. “This is not at all possible because they have not provided us any transport facility and neither any hotel accommodation has been provided to us since 2020.”
“How do you think the students will travel to the University?” the protestor asked.
The protesting student said, “If the University are not providing us these facilities then they should conduct the examinations through virtual mode just like the classes were conducted online.”
The students further said that if the university cannot conduct the examination online then they should just promote them.
“A lot of our fellow students have to travel long distances in order to reach the University campus and even some are from other states. It is not possible for them to travel from far flung areas and then pay around 6 thousand rupees only for a stay of 15 days,” the CUK student said.
Further, the protestors said that the Central University of Kashmir have always disappointed them and requested the Lieutenant Governor of the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha to intervene into the matter.
“We do not demand anything from the University authorities because every time they have disappointed us,” the student said.
“Now, we are requesting the LG to kindly look into the matter of Central University (and see) what is happening there and how the students are being deprived of their basic rights,” the protestor added.(KNB)
