New Delhi, July 13 (KNB): In a major significant development, Army veteran Lt General Syed Ata Hasnain (retd) has been named chancellor of the Central University of Kashmir.
Earlier there were speculations that Ata Hasnain may be appointed as Governor of Jammu and Kashmir state.
Hasnain will replace founding chancellor and nuclear scientist Srikumar Banerjee.
Hasnain is a highly decorated retired general of the Indian Army. He has also commanded an Army Corps in Jammu and Kashmir and is said to have been a member of track 2 diplomacy initiatives with Pakistan. He is also associated with the think tanks Vivekananda International Foundation and Delhi Policy Group. (KNB)
