Congress and National Conference Announce Pre-Poll Alliance for J&K Assembly Elections

NC to contest 51 seats, Congress 32, CPI and Panthers get 1 each, 5 seats allocated through friendly sharing.

Srinagar 26 Aug(KNB): In a significant political development, the Congress and National Conference (NC) held a joint press conference today to announce a pre-poll alliance for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections.

As per the agreement, the National Conference will contest 51 seats, while the Indian National Congress (INC) will contest 32 seats. The Communist Party of India (CPI) and the Panthers Party will contest one seat each. Additionally, the alliance has agreed to “friendly sharing” on five seats.

Addressing the press conference, National Conference President Farooq Abdullah stated, “We have decided to go for a pre-poll alliance to counter those forces that are against the people and dividing the people of J&K and the country.” He emphasized that the Congress and NC will fight together to protect the interests of the people.

Congress General Secretary K. C. Venugopal, said, “The NC and Congress will form a government, and we have taken this decision in a cordial atmosphere to fight against the BJP.” He expressed confidence in the alliance’s ability to counter the BJP’s influence in the J&K.

K.C said, ‘The main motive of the INDIA alliance is to save the soul of Kashmir, which is why NC and Congress are coming together to save the people of J&K.(KNB)
