Srinagar 28 December (KNB): Cold conditions persist across the valley as the temperature remains below freezing point in different places of Kashmir, with summer capital Srinagar’s mercury hovering above freezing point at 1.4 degrees C.
As per MeT’s daily parameter register, Srinagar’s temperature last night was recorded above freezing point, giving some respite from cold compared to days of late during which mercury dipped to way below sub-zero, intensifying cold conditions in Srinagar.
Unlike the temperature in Srinagar, the cold conditions continue to persist in other places of Kashmir with mercury settling last night in North Kashmir’s tourist resort Gulmarg at -9.4 degrees C and in South Kashmir’s Pahalgam, the temperature settled at -7.9 degrees C.
As per official data, temperatures in other parts of the valley recorded last night were as minus 0.4 degrees celsius in Qazigund, minus 2.5 degrees celsius in Kokernag and minus 0.4 degrees celsius in Konibal.
Meanwhile, temperatures recorded in Kupwara was minus 1.0 degrees celsius and minus 14.0 degrees Celsius in Leh.
Regarding the weather in the coming days, MeT officials have said that there is no forecast of any major snowfall in J&K till this month’s end. (KNB)
