Clashes outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar leaves dozens injured

Srinagar, May 25 (KNB): Al least 15 persons were injured in Old City Srinagar following clashes erupt between a group of youth and government forces outside Jamia Masjid Srinagar after Friday congregational prayers. Reports said that as many as 12 youth were injured in forces actions.

At least twenty persons suffered injuries today in clashes between stone-pelting protesters and forces in the vicinity of the historic Jamia Masjid in old Srinagar after the Friday prayers, said Sahil Ahmad War a devotee.
The clashes broke out soon after the congregational prayers ended at the Jamia Masjid and other nearby mosques and shrines, Sahil added.

He said many persons including shopkeepers suffered injuries during the clashes and they have been admitted to a hospital here for treatment.

Meanwhile, Hurriyat (M) strongly condemned the use of brute force and firing pellets on the people of all ages who had come from far off places to offer Friday prayers and listen to the sermon of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and o seek the blessings of Almighty in the sacred month of Ramadan in unison.

The Hurriyat spokesman denounced the firing of hundreds of lethal pellets, tear gas and pava shells on the peaceful worshipers injuring dozens including shopkeepers of Nowhatta area terming it as a ultimate repression and force’s highhandedness.

Meanwhile, the mosque has been closed for further prayers as there is blood from pellet injuries all over the mosque which needs to be cleaned first. (KNB)
