Srinagar 07 January (KNB): Amid the snowfall and extreme cold conditions in Kashmir, Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) team Ganderbal has been reaching out to far-flung areas of Central Kashmir Ganderbal to conduct Gram Sabhas and verification of baseline survey on schedule.
To achieve the goals of Jal Jeevan Mission, the team of GVT JJM Ganderbal has been traversing tough terrain of the far flung areas of the district in order to reach the Gram Sabha locations.
Gramin Vikas Trust is working as Implementation Support Agency (ISA) under the flagship project of the Prime Minister, Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) in union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.
Khurshid Malik (State Head – GVT J&K) said that Gramin Vikas Trust is approximately working in around 1600 villages as of now and is looking forward to covering more area in coming future under the flagship project.
“The broad objectives of the project are to provide functional tap connection to Households, Schools, Anganwadi centres, GP buildings, Health centres, Wellness centres and Community buildings. Its functioning is also to bring awareness in the community about the judicious use of water; to take ownership of the scheme for its smooth operation and maintenance; to empower and develop human resource in the sector such that the demands of construction, plumbing, electrical, water quality management, water treatment, catchment protection, O&M, etc. are taken care of in short- and long-terms; to promote and ensure voluntary ownership among local community by way of contribution in cash, kind and/ or labour and voluntary labour (shramdaan) ensuring sustainability of water supply system, i.e. water source, water supply infrastructure, and funds for regular O&M,” State Head of GVT, J&K Khurshid Malik said.
It is pertinent to mention that the Gramin Vikas Trust (GVT) is a National Level Organization established in 1999 by Krishak Bharati Cooperative Limited (KRIBHCO), a Government of India Enterprise, for bringing about a sustainable improvement in livelihood of the poor and marginalised communities, especially, the tribal population including women.
The organisation is headed by Shiv Shanker Singh, CEO, Gramin Vikas Trust having 27 years of experience of leading and working with grassroots organisation and CSR initiatives. (KNB)
