Srinagar, May10(KNB): With the start of the holy month of the Ramadan, the prices of the kitchen items have registered a considerable raise, with the meat, eggs, sugar vegetables, fruits and other eatables are sold at high prices in the market.
Peoples alleged that due to the lackadaisical approach of the CAPD department the vendors and shopkeepers are making a mockery of the masses by charging the high prices, without caring about the rate list approved by the department and are selling the commodities at 20 -30 % higher than the rate list issued by the government.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau Mohd Maqbool Reshi a resident of Srinagar outskirts said “ Market prices are touching the heights, shopkeepers are selling the commodities at demanding prices, though the authorities can make difference by conducting the frequent raids to ensure the price stability , which is our right and their duty but unfortunately they are untraceable.”
“Ramadan is the month of the generosity, and in every corner of the globe with the advent of the Ramadan the markets prices are decreased and special discounts are offered but in Kashmir the case is opposite and vegetable like tomato, potato which were sold at 50 and 25 rupees per kg are now sold at 70 and 30 respectively and same is the case with other eatables also” an elderly person said.
Pertinently, no rate list for perishable items vegetable and fruits has been issued by the government since month of the March.
On contacting the Director food civil supplies and consumer affairs Mohd Qasim wani he said “ we have received the complaints regarding the overpricing , the vendors are complaining that they are getting the commodities on high rates from Mandis and outside state.”
He added we are going to commence a meeting tomorrow with the wholesalers, Mandi dealers to look at their part and the rate list will released accordingly, if anyone is found guilty a strict action will be initiated against them.(KNB)
