Srinagar, June 22(KNB): Commuters of Manzhar area of district Kupwara are facing a tough time due to the dilapidated condition of the roads creating immense hardships as the road is dotted with big potholes and ditches, making walking and driving an ordeal.
The inhabitants allege Roads and Development (R&B) authorities for the lack of better road connectivity in Manzhar area of Hyhima as it has developed ditches and holes causing inconvenience to the commuters creating problems for the children, ailing people and elders mostly during the rainy season.
The commuters alleged that the Roads and Building department is not coming up to the peoples’ expectations of repairing the roads damaged due to the winter rain and snow.
“The condition of roads here in Manzhama is completely crisp, as each time macadamization is done it just vanishes within a month creating hell of problems for the locals especially for children, elders and patients as barely any transport visits through the road due to its worst condition,” Syed Mohammed Sarwar told news agency Kashmir News Bureau.
Another resident, Fayaz Ahmad said, “Despite we have visited the R&B authorities many times, they pay a deaf ear to our pleas. Earlier our road was macadamized but the materials were so bad that it doesn’t even persist for a month.”
He further said, “We appeal to the authorities to please have a look at the bad condition of this road and get it repaired soon.”
When Kashmir news Bureau contacted Exin Kupwara, Gurdev Singh he said, “Manzhar area is the part of Hyhima possessing multiple link roads where nearly 80-90 per-cent roads have been developed so far and for the said village Tender had already been sent but the delayment is due to the clashes between the residents and even we have sent Tehsildar there for the said matter but the locals have refused to develop the roads through their lands.”
“The locals cooperation is highly needed for the betterment of roads at this very time,” he further added.
The residents added that earlier authorities had assured to repair the road but the situation is unchanged as the problems like non maintenance of roads, development of ditches and holes on the major part of the road have not been repaired yet.(KNB)
