Assembly elections likely in June: Sources

 

Srinagar, April 26(KNB): Election Commissiin of India (ECI) has called a high level meeting of top officials of Jammu and Kashmir tommorow in New Delhi for consultations with various political parties, state administration and other stakeholders regarding the upcoming Assembly Election-2019.

The commission is expected to take a call shortly on holding Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, which were deferred during announcement of parliment polls on March 10 by it citing security reasons, in june or defer them further in the month of September-October.

As per the sources, Assembly elections 2019 are likely going to be held in the month of June in state of jammu and kashmir and the upcoming elections may turn out to be highly competitive as along with Regional parties new faces like JKPM, PC are also in the fray.

While talking to Kashmir News Bureau a political analyst said “Parlimentary elections are almost over now everyone is waiting for results while Assembly elections will be held soon and this time it will be a tough competition as many new faces have come to fore who have huge masses supporting and are going to be in the fray. The upcoming election will be a test for the the traditional regional and national parties who will try to defend their fortess and are going to give a tough time to each other.”

He further said ” Moreover, the political parties may not use the slogans of development like roads, electricity etc instead they will be using the burning issues like safeguarding Article 370- 35A, revokation of highways closure order and Jammat Ban as a tool to persuade voters in their favour.”

Meanwhile, Governor administration defers the Asssembly elections and asked Election Commission of India to hold elections in November citing Ramzan, yatra, tourism season, bakerwal migration.(KNB)
