Srinagar 09 September (KNB) Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) on Thursday said that around 87 passengers were rescued alive, one died and two remains missing after a boat capsized yesterday afternoon in Brahmaputra near Nimatighat in Jorhat district of Assam.
As per ASDMA, the incident took place around 4:15 pm on Wednesday when a boat, Maa Kamala, capsized which left 90 passengers in the Brahmaputra waters near Nimatighat.
However, after the capsizing of the boat, the NDRF and SDRF teams embarked on the rescue operation. The ASDMA said that among the total 90 passengers, 87 were rescued alive and two were missing as one of the passengers died during the incident.
On Thursday, the ASDMA said that “41 personnel including 9 deep drivers of State Disaster Response Force of the Jorhat area are conducting the search operation with seven boats. 167 personnel of 1st Bn NDRF team stationed at Jorhat 12th Bn NDRF team from Sivasagar, Dhemaji and Itanagar are conducting search operation with 24 rescu boats and has also deployed its 30 deep drivers.”
The incident was said to come after two boats collided near Nimatighat and one among them overturned, which rendered 90 passengers into the water to struggle for their lives. (KNB)
