Asifa Case: Protests in parts of Kashmir Valley for consecutive second day

Srinagar, April 11 (KNB): For the consecutive second day protests were held in many parts of Kashmir Valley demanding stern punishments against the culprits involved in Kathua’s 8-year-old Asifa. Besides Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) a numbers of civil society groups and students protested to demand fair proceedings in the case.

Reports reaching Kashmir News Bureau, the JRL leaders led by Muhammad Yasin Malik and Engineer Hilal Ahmad War took out a protest march at Abi Guzar Srinagar which saw the participation of hundreds of other JRL leaders and activists. The protestors holding the ply cards condemned the move of certain political parties and Jammu based lawyers openly favoring the culprits involved in crime. Both the leaders Malik and War were arrested by police and lodged in Police station Kothi Bagh and were later shifted to Central Jail Srinagar.

At Kashmir University, massive protests were held in solidarity with Ashifa gang rape and murder victim.

Pertinently, the crime branch team had faced a tough time in submitting a set of two charge sheets when local lawyers allegedly tried to prevent them from filing the documents before the court on Monday.

Reports reaching KNB, student of faculty of Law led by Umair Nazir Ronga along with other students protested and demanded impartial probe and fair proceedings in the case. A student Faakirah Suraiya Irfan deliberated on the need for young intellectuals to not only condemn the matter but to take constructive steps towards the same.

Meanwhile, several students, youth and civil society members protested here at Pratap Park, Srinagar demanding justice for 8-yr old Ashifa who was raped and murdered in Kathua after being drugged and tortured for several days inside a temple. Student activist Shehla Rashid led the protest during which she said, “This is a protest against the rape, torture and murder of an innocent girl, Ashifa Bano. This is a protest against the blatant attempts to communalise the case. BJP is hereby warned to keep its dirty politics out of the state.

Asifa was kidnapped from Rasana village of Kathua on January 10. According to investigations, she was drugged and held captive for a week before being murdered and raped. (KNB)
