Srinagar 09 November (KNB): After UNESCO chose Srinagar as Creative City under the Crafts and Folk Arts category, Mayor Srinagar City Junaid Azim Mattu Tuesday said that month-long celebratory events would be held in this regard.

Mattu said a very arduous process was followed, and every required department put their efforts to make a convincing dossier for getting Srinagar designated as Creative City under Crafts and Folk Arts.

“We convinced UNESCO that we deserve to be included in this prestigious recognition and among nearly 250 cities across the world,” he said.

During the presser, the Commissioner SMC Amir Athar Khan said that a lot of hard work was done to achieve the feat and dedicated it to the efforts of all.  He talked about things that were pursued in order to get in UNESCO’s Creative City Network. “This is a watershed moment for Srinagar city,” said SMC Commissioner.

However, Mattu also said that it was a collective effort to secure the feat and emphasised that Srinagar is the only city in the country chosen as UNESCO’s Creative City under Crafts and Folk Arts.

He further said that a lot of positive things will happen in Srinagar in the future. (KNB)
