Army Shot dead mentally disabled Man in Shopian

Shopian 03 November (KNB): A “mentally disabled” man was shot dead by the army on Saturday morning at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district near the paling of an army camp, police told.




According to a police official, “At around 3 AM a mentally unstable man was trying to walk into the army camp of 34 RR located at Pahnoo village of south Kashmirs Shopian district.

“Some warning shots were fired by a sentry in air but the man did not stop, he then directly fired some shots upon him, which killed him on the spot, he added.

The slain man was identified as Rayees Ahmad Wani, resident of Begam Kulgam.

Meanwhile, a sit-in protest was held by the family members and relatives of slain man along with his body at Batapora Chowk.

They were demanding for justice of the slain man and the arrest of erring army personnel. According to a family member Rayees Ahmad was missing since Friday afternoon.(KNB)
