Uri, Sept 7 (KNB): As a remarkable social responsibility and nation building initiative, Indian Army in collaboration with J&K Rural Development Society North Kashmir organised an anti-narcotics event aimed at promoting social wellbeing and fostering a drug free community at the Eidgah area of Sultandaki in border town Uri.
The event was met with an overwhelming response from the locals, and was attended by 350 adults, especially the youth of the region.
Chairman and members of Rural Development Society and Mr Showkat Ali, SDPO Uri were also present at the event.
The event focused on raising awareness about dangers of drug abuse and to provide valuable information to empower the youth to make informed choices and reject drug use and promote a drug free lifestyle by qualified professionals and opinion makers in society.
The event commenced with a word from Mr Shabir Ahmed Quasim, religious teacher, followed by advocate Toseal Ahmad who shed light on laws on drug possession and trafficking, subsequently the audience was addressed by Dr Mushtag Ahmed Malik who educated the youth on medical ramifications of substance abuse.
The event was finally addressed by the chief guest, Brigadier KS Dahiya, Commander of Kalapahar Brigade, who addressed the topic with the youth in a holistic manner and motivated them to be torch bearers for the ‘Future of Kashmir’ and introduced them to the limitless possibilities that lie ahead with focus, hard work and determination.
Khawaja Mohd Shafi, Chairman Rural Development Society North Kashmir stressed about drug menace and also highlighted the vital role to curb the menace of drug use by Jammu and Kashmir police, Army and civil administration.
He was joined by his society’s other dignitaries like Ab. Majeed Akhoon District Chairman Rural Development Society Baramulla, Ishfaq Lone Additional Secretary Rural Development Society North Kashmir, Tehsil Chairman Rural Development Society Uri Bashir Ahmad Wathloo and a huge gathering of people.
The locals appreciated the initiative and sincere efforts of the Indian Army and J&K Rural Development Society.
The event was a great success and culminated with the youth taking a pledge for the “Complete Eradication of Substance Abuse from Society”.-KNB
