Srinagar 09 March (KNB): Recently a team from election commission of India headed by Deputy Election commissioner Sharma visited the State of Jammu and Kashmir on 2nd of March to review the preparedness for the upcoming elections, the security situation, to discuss with various regional and the national parties and to take their suggestions for holding the upcoming elections in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to sources, almost all the parties in unison stressed and urged the election commission of India team for holding the elections in the state as soon as possible to end the prevailing political situation in the state.
The question arises that are the conditions and situation conducive in the state especially in the valley of Kashmir for conducting the elections. Amid the chaos and tension regarding the scrapping of the Article 370 and 35A, the valley is gripped in an atmosphere of uncertainty.
The recent Urban Local bodies elections last year with abysmal voter turnout in Kashmir showed that the conductance of the elections without taking in the consideration the ground situation and the realities in consideration may result in the lack of interest of the voters in the elections and may result in the further alienation of Kashmiris as they feel that the elections are being imposed on them.
Besides there is no stoppage in frequent encounters taking place in the valley on daily basis in every corner of the valley and the security situation in Kashmir has become worse after the suicide attack on the CRPF convoy in Lethpora area of the Pulwama district.
Talking to Kashmir News Bureau political analyst s Inam–ul–nabi said “ the conductance of the elections is a good move , the institutions should be made but the state and the central government make the atmosphere and the situation conducive for the elections, under present circumstances no leader can go to the tense areas especially in south kashmir for election campaigning and also the voters should first get the sense of security”
He further added the article 35A is sacred to the people state irrespective of colour, creed , religion or region, there is a apprehensive atmosphere in the state , the supreme court should look at its relevance and the impact ,to end the dilemma chaos.’(KNB)
