After shutdown, normal life returns to valley

Srinagar, 25 Feb(KNB): Normalcy returned to most parts of the valley after two days of chaos and dilemma amoung people due to the rumours and speculation about the scrapping of the Article 35A, while compelete shutdown was observed in Kulgam against the killing of three militants.

Shops, business establishments private institutions, reopened this morning after remaining closed for two days, movement of transport was also witnessed while shortage of fuel continues.

Earlier, the central government sent around 10,000 soldiers of various paramilitary forces to the state and a massive crackdown was on in which around 130 separatists from the Jamaat-e-Islami (Kashmir) and the Hurriyat Conference were arrested during night including Jamaat-e-Islami chief Abdul Hamid Fayaz and Hurriyat Conference’s Yasin Malik.

Meanwhile, government orders from different departments carrying special directions regarding storage of medicine, food stocks cancellations of leaves of doctors added to the rumors of possibility of massive law and order situation in the Valley.

Since people storing essential items increases uneasy suspense in the Kashmir Valley fearing backlash from the authorities in wake of the Pulwama attack earlier this month in which 49 CRPF personnel were killed.

Even pro-elections politicians tweeted regarding this situation and urged New Delhi and administration to clarify what is going on.

Hurriyat (M) also termed the crackdown and mass arrests of resistance and socio religious leaders across Kashmir as vindictiveness of the government.

So far, the police termed the detentions of the separatists as routine, saying, “Separatists and potential stone-throwers have been arrested in the past as well, as a preventive measure.”

Pertinently, Jammu and Kashmir Governor Satya Pal Malik said there was no need for citizens to panic as be alarmed over a major crackdown on separatists during night and the deployment of forces is part of pre-election induction, adding that some people are trying to create panic over article 35A from last six months.
