Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura, Srinagar is in the forefront of providing tertiary patient care in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir, has a track record of having served to its fullest under all circumstances including the turbulent times and the worst moments during floods or man-made disasters, etc.
Taking stock of the facilities, the Advisor to Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri Farooq A. Khan paid a visit to this Premier Institution on January 27th, 2020 and assessed various patient care activities/infrastructural developments while visiting different areas of the Institution particularly Cardiac Cath Lab, Emergency Services, all Intensive Care areas and some Wards besides certain Laboratory Services.
The Hon’ble Advisor was updated about the recent developmental activities as well as its track record. He interacted with the Heads of Departments, Faculty Members, Heads of Sections, Professionals and all other Supportive Services in the Board Room of the Institute. He appreciated the work done by the Professionals in this Institute and having brought laurels to the Institute while doing extraordinary, innovative and interventional procedures. Reacting to the various deficiencies/constraints, the Hon’ble Advisor assured SKIMS Administration of full support from the Government and, in fact, suggested that such developmental proposals be forwarded to the Government that would ensure the futuristic vision of this Institution and, in that direction, he would leave no stone unturned in rendering of his support particularly in upgrading its facilities and further expansion programmes.
Prof. A.G. Ahangar, Director, SKIMS while updating about the information said that SKIMS is taking effective steps for enhancing its manpower and equipments on a very fast track mode along with various other infrastructural development activities especially with regard to early commissioning of the State Cancer Institute and other such landmark projects.
The recent selection and promotion of the faculty members concluded in a record time of just two weeks by Apical Selection Committee assisted by Subject Experts from various reputed Institutions of the County including AIIMS New Delhi, PGIMER Chandigarh, SGPGI Lucknow, etc., was hailed by one and all. Director, SKIMS while expressing his views said that after observing shortage of faculty decided putting in unrelenting efforts to address many critical issues at the administrative level on fast track basis, so as to provide optimum facilities to the people. He further added that the Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor, Shri G.C. Murmu during his review on various projects/issues related to SKIMS assured his wholehearted support towards infrastructure development under two plans, one Financial Plan for next 03 years and another Perspective Plan for 05 years and stressed for working out modalities for submitting a compressive futuristic plan and vision of growth and development of SKIMS along with necessary DPRs.
Meanwhile, SKIMS Hospital has been rated Swatch in compliance with the Solid Waste Management Rules, 2016 and, to this effect, a “Swachata Certificate” has been presented to the Director, SKIMS, Prof. A.G. Ahangar, on January 1st, 2020. On the basis of exemplary performance in providing the best facilities to the patients under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana Scheme (AB-PMJAY), SKIMS has been awarded and rated as the “Top Most Institution” in the implementation of this Scheme in a function held at Jammu Club, Jammu on 18.01.2020.
Further, with a view to provide the best possible relief to the patients and people living in abject poverty, the Government of India has inaugurated two outlets under AMRIT Scheme for Drugs, Disposables and other Consumable items at SKIMS, one in OPD and another in Emergency Area at SKIMS during a programme held at SKICC Srinagar.
Director hoped that these patient centric welfare measures will definitely provide enormous benefits to the community at large.
