Srinagar, Aug 19 (KNB): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Wednesday said he would meet and listen to the United States Ambassador during his upcoming visit to Jammu and Kashmir, but asserted that the issues of Jammu and Kashmir have to be resolved by the Central Government and not by Washington.

Speaking to media persons after undertaking a review tour of Srinagar city, Omar said it had been a long time since he last interacted with the US Ambassador.

“Let him come, we will talk. It has been a long time since I have spoken to the American Ambassador. I would like to listen to him, but he is also coming to listen,” Omar said.

The Chief Minister, however, said that the problems of Jammu and Kashmir are not matters to be raised with leaders or representatives of other countries.

“Our problems are not for Washington to solve. They have to be resolved by the Central Government. It would be wrong for me to go and complain about our issues to the leader of another country. It is also not my habit to complain about our issues to leaders of other countries,” he said.

On his visit to Srinagar, Omar Abdullah said the city represents the identity of Jammu and Kashmir and requires equal attention along with Jammu.

“Srinagar city is the identity of Jammu and Kashmir. J&K is perhaps the only place which has two capitals, and both are important and deserve attention,” he said.

The Chief Minister said that he and other officials started the tour at around 6:30 am to assess the progress of various ongoing developmental works on the ground.

“From Downtown to Uptown, we reviewed around 10 to 12 projects. Most of the projects have shown good progress, while one or two projects need to be pushed further,” he said.

Omar said such field visits were important to compare the progress reports presented in meetings at the Civil Secretariat with the actual situation on the ground.

“We came out to check the projects on the ground and compare them with what we hear about these projects in the Secretariat,” he added.(KNB)
