Srinagar, August 2(KNB): Five people, including three children, died in separate incidents across Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, while a 13-year-old boy remained missing after he slipped into the Puhroo River in Sopore. Rescue operations were continuing till late in the evening.
In Anantnag district, a two-year-old girl died in a domestic accident at Sadoora. The child, identified as Anaya Ishfaq, daughter of Ishfaq Ahmad Kumar, sustained fatal injuries after a stack of bedding reportedly fell from the top of a wardrobe inside her home. She was declared dead at the scene.
In Srinagar’s Hyderpora area, an 18-year-old labourer from Bihar, Ram Parvaish Kumar, died after falling from an under-construction building. He was taken to SMHS Hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead. Police have registered a case and initiated an investigation.
Another incident was reported from Kulhama in Bandipora district, where six-year-old Sumiya, daughter of John Mohammad, accidentally slipped into a nearby stream. Local residents retrieved the child and shifted her to a hospital, where she was declared dead.
In Kathua district, a 40-year-old man, Satish Singh, was killed after being struck by the Hemgiri Express near Chainpura in the Chandwan area. Government Railway Police personnel reached the spot, completed medico-legal formalities, and initiated legal proceedings.
Meanwhile, search operations continued in Sopore after 13-year-old Furqan Rafeeq Hajam slipped into the Puhroo River at Wadoora. Personnel of the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF), police, and local volunteers were engaged in the search, which was continuing at the time of filing this report.
The separate incidents resulted in multiple fatalities across the Union Territory in a single day, with authorities continuing investigations into the respective cases and rescue efforts in Sopore.(KNB)
