ANANTNAG, July 22 (KNB): A police constable was killed in a firing incident in Kokernag side road of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Wednesday, officials said.
Officials told that gunshots were heard in the area following which the injured constable was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital.
Hospital authorities later confirmed that the constable had been brought dead. The deceased has been identified as Ashiq Hussain.
The exact circumstances leading to the firing incident were not immediately known.
Meanwhile, police have launched an investigation into the incident. The area has been cordoned off, and additional security personnel have been deployed as part of the ongoing operation. (KNB)
