Srinagar, June 25(KNB): People’s Democratic Party (PDP) president Mehbooba Mufti on Thursday announced district-level protests across Jammu and Kashmir on June 30 against what she described as “backdoor recruitments” and alleged favouritism in government appointments under the National Conference-led administration.

Addressing party workers and youth, Mehbooba alleged that government jobs and contracts were being allotted to a select group of individuals allegedly linked to those in power, while thousands of deserving unemployed youth continued to await fair employment opportunities.

She further claimed that several government contracts had been awarded to “favoured companies” and alleged that the recruitment process lacked transparency and merit. According to the PDP president, appointments should be made strictly through a transparent and competitive selection process.

Mehbooba also alleged that in some instances, candidates were reportedly asked to pay between ₹1 lakh and ₹2 lakh to secure government jobs. She demanded a thorough and impartial investigation into the allegations and called for accountability from the authorities.

Describing unemployment as one of the biggest challenges facing the youth of Jammu and Kashmir, the PDP chief appealed to students, job aspirants and members of civil society to participate in the June 30 protests at all district headquarters across the Union Territory.

“The future of our youth cannot be sacrificed for political patronage and favouritism,” she said, adding that the protests would seek transparency, merit-based recruitment and fairness in the allotment of government contracts.

The National Conference had not issued an immediate response to the allegations at the time of filing this report. The June 30 demonstrations are expected to focus on demands for transparent recruitment procedures, merit-based employment and an inquiry into the alleged irregularities. (KNB)
