Srinagar June 17 (KNB): Leader of Opposition in the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly and MLA Kishtwar, Sunil Sharma, on Wednesday said that the 12-year tenure of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, now the longest-serving Prime Minister of India from a non-Congress party, has brought remarkable changes across the country, particularly in Jammu and Kashmir, where terrorism has been significantly curbed and peace has largely been restored.
Speaking on the completion of 12 years of the Modi-led government at the Centre, Sharma said Kashmir has witnessed unprecedented changes during this period. He asserted that terrorism, which once posed a major challenge to normal life in the Valley, has been brought largely under control.
“Today, if you see Kashmir, it is free from the fear of terrorism. Nearly 90 percent of the situation has been controlled. People are living normal lives and development is visible on the ground,” Sharma said.
The senior BJP leader said that while some elements continue to spread fear among the youth, the younger generation is no longer willing to be misled.
“Some people try to create fear among the youth, but today’s youth is fearless and confident. They are focused on education, employment and progress rather than violence and unrest,” he said.
Sharma further stated that the Centre’s policies on security, development and governance have helped create an atmosphere conducive to peace and prosperity in Jammu and Kashmir.
He said the transformation witnessed across the Union Territory over the past decade reflects the success of the government’s vision and the aspirations of the people for a peaceful and prosperous future. (KNB)
