Sopore, June 13 (KNB): Concerns over sanitation and inadequate passenger facilities at Sopore Railway Station have sparked criticism from commuters and local residents, who have urged the authorities to take immediate measures to improve the condition of the station.

According to locals, heaps of garbage can be seen accumulated along sections of the railway tracks, creating an unpleasant environment and raising concerns about hygiene and public health.

“We use the railway station regularly, but the condition of the tracks and surrounding areas is disappointing. Proper cleanliness should be maintained, especially at a public place visited by hundreds of passengers every day,” said a local commuter.

Another resident said that apart from sanitation issues, passengers are also facing inconvenience due to inadequate drinking water and toilet facilities at the station.

“The station serves a large number of people from Sopore and nearby areas. Authorities should ensure basic amenities such as clean washrooms, safe drinking water and proper maintenance of the premises,” he added.

Responding to the concerns, MLA Sopore Irshad Rasool Kar told KNB that the issues related to Sopore Railway Station have already been taken up with the concerned authorities.

He said that the matter has also been discussed with Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, including concerns regarding cleanliness, passenger amenities and the overall condition of the railway station.

“The issues highlighted by the public have already been brought to the notice of the higher authorities, and efforts are being made to ensure that the necessary steps are taken to address them,” the MLA said.

Residents have expressed hope that the authorities will take prompt action to improve sanitation standards and upgrade passenger facilities at the station in the larger public interest. (KNB)
