Srinagar, June 3 (KNB): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference Vice President Omar Abdullah on Wednesday dismissed reports suggesting that the meeting of ruling alliance legislators was shifted at the last moment, asserting that the venue had been finalized days in advance.

Taking to X, Omar Abdullah wrote, “I am sorry to disappoint you but It has NOT been shifted at the last moment. It was always my intention to conduct this meeting off-site and all arrangements have been made, days in advance, at the location originally chosen by me.”

The clarification came amid intense political speculation surrounding the closed-door meeting of National Conference MLAs and independent legislators supporting the government, being held at Chashma Shahi in Srinagar.

Political circles in Jammu and Kashmir have been abuzz over the meeting, with opposition parties and political observers linking it to recent rumours regarding the stability of the National Conference-led government and the demand for restoration of statehood. Attendance at the meeting was made mandatory for party legislators and supporting independents.

Reports said the meeting is aimed at discussing matters of public welfare and issues of collective importance, although the detailed agenda has not been officially disclosed.

Meanwhile, opposition BJP leaders sought to downplay speculation of any move to destabilize the government. Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma stated that the BJP has no interest in toppling the Omar Abdullah government or forming an alternative government in Jammu and Kashmir.

The Chashma Shahi meeting is being closely watched as it comes amid growing political discussions over statehood restoration, cabinet expansion, and the future course of the ruling alliance in Jammu and Kashmir. (KNB)
