Srinagar, April 20 (KNB): Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Srinagar, Dr. G.V. Sundeep Chakravarthy, IPS, on Monday chaired a comprehensive crime review meeting of District Police Srinagar at the Conference Hall of PCR Kashmir.

The meeting was attended by all Zonal SPs, SP Headquarters, DySP Headquarters, SDPOs, DySP DAR, SHOs/incharge police posts, and officials from the District Police Office.

At the outset, the SSP reviewed the overall crime scenario of the district in detail. Threadbare discussions were held to improve the quality of investigation and prosecution in cases registered under the UAPA, NDPS Act, and other crime categories, with a focus on enhancing conviction rates.

A detailed performance review was conducted across all zones, sub-divisions, and police stations. Key areas discussed included general crime, POCSO cases, crimes against women, murder, theft and burglary, NDPS and UAPA cases, action against absconders and proclaimed offenders, preventive measures, grievance redressal, organised crime, and implementation of Nyaya Sakshya.

The SSP laid special emphasis on expediting disposal of pending and backlog cases, strengthening investigations in UAPA and NDPS cases through professional handling, and improving conviction rates by strictly adhering to legal provisions and SOPs. He also stressed identification and attachment of properties and freezing of bank accounts linked to proceeds of crime.

Highlighting the need for intensified action against drug trafficking, the SSP directed officers to dismantle NDPS hotspots in a systematic manner. Investigating officers were asked to explore forward and backward linkages in such cases and conduct financial investigations to trace illegal proceeds.

The meeting also underscored the importance of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, launched on April 9, 2026, for a period of three months. The SSP stressed coordinated efforts between police and the district administration to raise awareness about drug abuse and called for the involvement of community leaders and Imams in public sensitisation.

Officers were directed to take strict action against individuals involved in drug peddling, including initiating proceedings for cancellation of passports, Aadhaar cards, driving licences, and other documents as per law.

Expressing concern over acquittals and discharges in certain UAPA and NDPS cases, the SSP instructed officers to address investigative shortcomings. SHOs were also directed to hold regular review meetings with investigating officers to enhance investigative skills and ensure accountability.

The SSP reiterated that progress would be reviewed in subsequent meetings and warned of strict action against officers failing to meet targets.

The meeting concluded with directions to all officers to work with renewed commitment and coordination to ensure effective crime control and a safer Srinagar.(KNB)
