Srinagar, April 2(KNB): Residents of Rahmat Lane in Srinagar on Thursday voiced strong concern over persistent waterlogging caused by a faulty drainage system, leaving the area submerged in stagnant wastewater.
The lane, located opposite Noora Hospital, has been grappling with the issue for a prolonged period, with the drainage network reportedly remaining defunct. Locals said the situation has deteriorated in recent days, as wastewater continues to overflow onto the road, disrupting pedestrian movement and daily activities.
“Despite repeated complaints to the concerned authorities, no concrete action has been taken. The entire lane remains waterlogged, causing immense inconvenience and posing serious health risks, particularly to children and the elderly,” a resident said.
The stagnant water, mixed with waste and debris, has raised fears of potential disease outbreaks, with residents warning of a looming public health concern if the issue is not addressed promptly.
Locals have urged the authorities to take immediate steps to repair the drainage system and ensure proper sanitation, especially considering the area’s proximity to a healthcare facility.(KNB)
