Yasir Reshi Alleges Irregular Leasing of Waqf Land in Sumbal, Seeks Probe

Srinagar, Mar 17(KNB): Organising Secretary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Yasir Reshi, on Tuesday raised serious concerns over the alleged leasing of Waqf land in north Kashmir, calling for immediate intervention and transparency.

In a post on X, Reshi claimed that nearly 150 kanals of Waqf land in Asham area of Sumbal had reportedly been leased out without any public notice, tendering process, or disclosure of beneficiaries. He termed the reports “shocking” and said the development raises serious questions about accountability within the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board.

“Why are prime Waqf assets being handed out instead of being developed for sustainable community income?” Reshi questioned, stressing that such properties should be utilised for the welfare of the community.

He urged Chairperson of the Waqf Board, Darakhshan Andrabi, to take immediate cognisance of the matter and halt any alleged misuse of religious properties.

Reshi further called for a transparent inquiry into the matter and demanded that details regarding the lease and its beneficiaries be made public to ensure accountability.(KNB)
