Srinagar, Dec 24(KNB): Authorities on Wednesday issued an avalanche warning for five districts of Jammu and Kashmir following fresh snowfall in the higher reaches of the Union Territory.
Officials said a low-danger avalanche alert has been sounded for Doda, Ganderbal, Kishtwar, Poonch and Ramban districts. Avalanches are likely to occur at elevations above 2,800 metres in these areas over the next 24 hours.
As a precautionary measure, residents and travellers have been advised to stay away from avalanche-prone zones and strictly adhere to advisories issued by the authorities.
Notably, most of the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir have witnessed moderate to heavy snowfall during the past week. (KNB)
