J&K Braces for Intense Showers, Flash Floods, and Landslides

Srinagar 01 August(KNB): A spell of intense rainfall has been experienced in Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours, with Jammu receiving 112 mm of rainfall, followed by Reasi with 74.5 mm, Katra with 72.9 mm, and Udhampur with 32.2 mm.

According to the Met Centre Srinagar, the weather forecast for the next few days is as follows:

  • August 1-5: Generally cloudy with intermittent light to moderate rain and thundershowers expected at many places in Kashmir Division and most places in Jammu Division.
  • August 6-7: Scattered rain and thundershowers predicted in Kashmir Division, while fairly widespread rain and thundershowers are expected in Jammu Division.
  • August 8-10: Scattered rain and thundershowers forecasted across the region.

The Met Centre has issued a warning for intense showers, which may lead to flash floods, cloud bursts, landslides, mudslides, and shooting stones over vulnerable areas of J&K. Heavy rainfall is also expected at a few places in Jammu Division. Residents are advised to exercise caution and stay alert during this period.(KNB)
