Kulgam, July 6 (KNB): An encounter has broken out between security forces and militants in a village in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said today.
The gunfight started early this morning in the village of Modergam , when a joint team of army, police, and CRPF launched a search operation in the area.
Sources said that the security forces had received intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the village, leading to the launch of the operation.
As the forces closed in on the suspected hiding spot, the militants opened fire, triggering a fierce encounter. The exchange of fire is still ongoing, and the situation is being closely monitored.
The identity and number of militants involved in the encounter are not yet known. The area has been cordoned off, and the security forces are conducting a thorough search operation.(KNB)
