Srinagar 07 June(KNB): The local community in interior lanes of Hamza Colony Elahi Bagh is grappling with widespread electricity theft, both during the day and night, which has gone unnoticed and unaddressed by the responsible department, alleges residents.

With no inspection squads or such patrolling this illegal hooking and meter bypassing has not only left law-abiding consumers suffering from low voltage and meter disruptions but also raises serious concerns about the oversight of the concerned at ground.

The Residents of Lane 6 Hamza Colony Awanta Bhawan Road which falls under OwanthaBhawan F2 have reported significant disturbances due to these illegal hooking and meter bypassing, which lead to frequent power drops and damage to electrical meters, ironically of those who are honest consumers.
Despite numerous complaints and attempts to alert the concerned officials on the ground, no effective measures have been taken to curb these criminal activities.

One affected resident, pleading anonymity, expressed their frustration: “I have brought this issue to the attention of the groundmen multiple times, but no action has been taken. We pay thousands of rupees as electricity bill every month. But still the department people on ground are turning a blind eye or are somehow involved in allowing this to happen.”

The community urges the KPDCL to take swift and transparent action to identify and penalize those involved in these illegal activities, ensuring that law-abiding citizens are no longer left at the mercy of such disruptions.(KNB)
