PDP’s Reservation Policy Rift: Leadership Disowns Member’s Criticism

Srinagar, 30 May (KNB): In a recent development within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), a contentious debate over the reservation policy has emerged, shedding light on internal divisions within the party.

The discord ignited when PDP Youth President and Srinagar Parliamentary Seat candidate, Waheed-ur-Rahman Para, took to social media to express his discontent with the new reservation policy. In his now-deleted post on X platform, Para criticized the policy, stating “The new reservation policy undermines the meritand aspirations of countless intelligent students.Allocating 40% of opportunities to 70% of thestudents erodes meritocracy. Government mustreconsider this and balance all stakeholders forequitable opportunities.”

The response from the party leadership was swift but indirect. PDP President Mehbooba Mufti in her post on X, disassociated the party from any individual opinions regarding the reservation policy. She emphasized that such expressions do not represent the party’s stance or viewpoint but are purely personal opinions.

Mehbooba wrote, “Any opinion expressed by a PDP member regarding reservation doesn’t represent the party’s stand or a viewpoint & is purely a personal opinion.”

Adding to the clarification, Iltija Mehbooba, who serves as her mother’s media advisor, quoted Mehbooba Mufti’s post and explicitly stated that any opinion expressed by a PDP member on the reservation policy is not endorsed by the party in any shape or form. She emphasized that such opinions should not be assumed to reflect PDP’s official policy.

Iltija Mufti in her post of X, stated “FYI any PDP member expressing their opinion on the reservation policy is not endorsed by the party in any shape or form. Nor is it to be assumed to be PDPs policy.”

Following the response from the party president, Waheed-ur-Rahman Para promptly deleted his initial post, indicating a level of alignment with the party leadership’s stance.- KNB
