Srinagar, 04 December (KNB): Begum Khalida Shah, the President of Awami National Conference (ANC) and the eldest daughter of Sher-e-Kashmir Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah, commemorated her father’s 118th Birth Anniversary by offering floral tributes.
In a statement to Kashmir News Bureau-KNB, she emphasized Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s multifaceted contributions, hailing him as a leader, teacher, guide, friend and philosopher.
According to Shah, Sheikh Mohammad Abdullah’s legacy is indelible, marked by his efforts to uplift the masses from poverty and subjugation. She highlighted his pivotal role in initiatives such as land reforms, free education, women’s emancipation and comprehensive developmental programs across Jammu and Kashmir.
Shah accused the BJP and RSS of attempting to alter the demographic character of the region through the abrogation of Article 370 and 35 A, characterizing it as the first step in a broader agenda.
She asserted that the majority in Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh divisions vehemently opposes this unilateral decision considering it a violation of the state and Indian constitutions.
The ANC President expressed determination to work towards the reinstatement of Article 370 and 35 A, emphasizing the need for a just and fair solution to the Kashmir issue. She called for prioritizing the aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir by both the Indian and Pakistani governments.
Floral tributes were organized by ANC in district headquarters led by their respective District Presidents across the valley, Jammu and Kargil/Ladakh as part of the commemorative events.-KNB
