Appeals to abolish stringent law
Srinagar 28 Sep(KNB): Welcoming the listing of plea by Foundation of Media Professionals challenging several stringent and inhuman sections of UAPA by Supreme Court to be heard on 18th October 2022 by Foundation of Media Professionals of India and other forums to put their weight behind the petition so that court is convinced to take appreciate decision to make UAPA law in accordance with the principles of legal justice.
AIP Spokesperson Firdous Baba said that hundreds of innocent mainly Kashmiris are laying in and outside J&K because of the draconian sections of the UAPA.
The decision by the SC to hear the petition has raised the hopes of hundreds of such people who are suffering and lying in the jails since years.
Spokesperson has expressed his hope that the way SC has taken the a timely notice of the sedition law least what is needed in the UAPA is to take similar stand on UAPA which has brought bad name to the law enforcing agencies and which has been misused in many of the cases to silence the indigenous political voices, thus has lost the basic purpose for the government had amended the UAPA law.(KNB)
