Srinagar 10 September (KNB): Several houses of Gul Pharmacy Lane falling in the Buchwara area of Dalgate have been facing a shortage of water since 2017, said the residents on Friday, alleging apathy from PHE to resolve the issue.
The aggrieved residents of Gul Pharmacy Lane said that they have been facing an acute shortage of drinking water for several years and are getting by laying pipes from neighbours since 2017, a year when the water shortage was observed by several residents of the area.
They said that the shortage of water has been borne by them for an inordinate period now and is quite contrary in current times. “We have been struggling for a basic amenity like drinking water for years now,” rued the locals.
“Despite registering a complaint last month under a receipt number 410 at PHE department, there is yet to be any action taken from the department on the issue,” said Parvaiz Ahmad,” a resident of Gul Pharmacy lane, Buchwara.
“Regarding the water problem, the PHE inspector once examined the issue and said that low pressure of water is the cause behind it. But the department should have since then come up with a solution, because we need water and cannot live without it,” said another local.
He said that they are private workers and have to forgo work in order to visit the PHE department regarding the issue. He alleged that the department is not paying heed to them and is riding roughshod over their requests.
It was further said that the concerned Exen and JE of PHE had been apprised about the issue and had promised to look into it. “But nothing is being done to alleviate the problem,” the locals said.
On talking to Chief Engineer PHE Kashmir Iftikhar Ahmad Wani, he said that he will look into the issue and reiterated the same answer on asking more questions. (KNB)
