Srinagar Aug 29: In order to celebrate the 10th National Sports Day, the Department of Youth Services and Sports organised dozens of sporting events across Jammu and Kashmir. Gazanfar Ali, Director of the Department in his special message on the National Sports Day has said that the Department of Youth Services and Sports is the prime agency for tapping and channelising sports talent of students in the UT of J&K and the same is being followed since 1973.
He however said that the priorities are amended with the time and situations. Director YSS stated that to provide equal opportunities of play and recreation to non-students as well, Government has taken many initiatives of youth engagement in hand.
He stressed upon the field staff of the Department for taking pledge of using sports as a tool to eradicate the menace of drug abuse in our society. Speaking more about the problem , Director YSS, underscored the importance of sports to promote respect and reach out to youth, including socially excluded groups in society.
Meanwhile scores of matches in different games were organised by the district offices of the Department in all the 20 districts of the UT. Besides boys a large number of girls also took part in different sports activities.(KNB)
