Srinagar 2 July (KNB): Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT) district commander and one Pakistani militant were killed along with three others during an encounter in Rajpora area of South Kashmir’s Pulwama district, taking a total toll of five slain militants in the gunfight.
As per officials, five militants were killed in the encounter which includes LeT district commander and one Pakistani militant. The slain district commander of LeT has been identified as Nishaz Lone alias Khitab.
This encounter in Rajpora has been termed by Inspector General of Police, Kashmir, Vijay Kumar as a big success. “District commander of proscribed militant outfit LeT Nishaz Lone @ Khitab & 01 Pakistani militant amongst total 5 killed militants in Pulwama encounter. A big success,” said police quoting IGP-K
During the initial phase of the encounter, one of the troopers was killed after getting critically injured. “LtGenYKJoshi ArmyCdrNC & all ranks salute the supreme sacrifice of Hav Kashi Rao, who laid down his life in the line of duty in Op Hanjan, Pulwama in a fierce firefight with militants on 1 July 2021. Condolences to the bereaved family,” said the Army in a tweet.
It is pertinent to mention that the encounter started late last night after a joint team of Jammu and Kashmir Police and Army’s 44RR launched CASO in the Rajpora area of Pulwama.
Upon reaching the suspected spot, hiding militants opened fire towards the security forces and the gun-battle ensued. (KNB)
