48th Chief Justice of India — Justice N V Ramana Sworn in Before President

Srinagar 24 April (KNB): Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana on Saturday sworn in as the 48th Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of India at 1100 hrs in the Ashoka Hall, Rashtrapati Bhavan. 

Ramana took his oath of office before the President of India, Ram Nath Kovind. Ramana has taken the position of S A Bobde, who retired on 23 April, 2021 as CJI. 

However, N V Ramana was appointed as CJI by President on April 6, 2021 and his sworn in ceremony has been completed today before the President.   

The order released last time reads, “In exercise of the powers conferred by clause (2) of Article 124 of the Constitution of India, the President is pleased to appoint Shri Justice Nuthalapati Venkata Ramana, Judge of the Supreme Court, to be the Chief Justice of India with effect from 24th April, 2021.” 

It is pertinent to mention that N V Ramana will have a tenure of 16 months and will demit office on 26 August 2022. (KNB)
