Srinagar 29 December (KNB): The six returnees from the United Kingdom (UK) were reportedly found positive for the new Coronavirus strain, which was discovered there months back. Among these new strain Covid19 positive tested persons, the three patients are in National Institute of Mental Health and Science (NIMHANS), Bengaluru; two are in Central for Cellular Molecular Biology, Hyderabad and one in National Institute of Virology, Pune.
The Union ministry of civil aviation had temporarily barred the flights returning from the UK from December 22 to December 31. However, the RT-PCR tests were also made mandatory by the authorities for the passengers arriving in India from the UK.
This new Covid19 strain is reported to be 70 per cent more contagious than the current one. Pertinently the strain is mushrooming rapidly and was found in the month of September in the UK.
However, the new strain of the Covid19 virus, which has sneaked into India’s territory despite the government’s efforts to prevent it, can pose a severe threat if not curbed from spreading. (KNB)
