Srinagar, Mar 10 (KNB): Spiritual guru and Art of Living (AOL) founder Sri Sri Ravi Shankar’s peace conference on Saturday at the SKICC Srinagar ran into controversy as people stated they were brought under deception that their problems will be solved, they will be paid money and also some Gujjar leader is coming. The hundreds of participants reportedly raised the slogans against organizers.
Sources told KNB, the conference was organized by lesser known J&K Coordination Committee under the title Paigam-e-Mohabbat.
The sources said that Sri Sri had to cut short his speech and a subsequent press conference as many people attending the function stood up and shouted slogans in favour of “Azadi” and against India.
The angry participants said they had been cheated by the organisers who had promised them that their bank loans would be waived at the function.
Earlier Sri Sri said some well-meaning people were working silently to redress the problems faced by the people of Kashmir and his present visit was part of that non-political humanitarian initiative.
One of the organizer talking to KNB said that the idea behind conducting this event was to find a lasting solution to the age old Kashmir conflict.
Meanwhile commenting over the incident, MLA Langate Engineer Abdul Rasheed said that whatsoever participants did at SKICC was what Sri Sri deserved as his sermon on “Art of Living” to Kashmiris was like adding salt to their injuries, adding, the latter should have visited Shopian and other places to army camps and explained them the significance of ‘message of Love’.
