7 years on, government fail to complete single building of Women college in Kupwara

Kupwara 14 Jan (KNB): Thousand of female students were suffering due to Lack of basic facilities, infrastructure in Government Degree College for women in salkoot area of Kupwara district.




Established under the central scheme, “Establishment of Model degree college in Educationally backward districts back in 2012 adversely affects the education of the female students in kupwara.

More than 7 years from the inauguration the college is still functioning from mere five rooms. Besides the tall claims from the different officials and the politicians since 2013 the building infrastructure of the college is yet to be completed and even a single building is not completed. More than thousand female students are enrolled in the college in different semesters pursuing the different courses.

Talking to KNB a professor wishing anonymity said, “Due to lack of infrastructure we are forced to teach our students in lawns under the open sky. During examinations we have keep the middle school off to ensure the room accommodation for the students.

“We approached DC kupwara, Former Secretary Asghar Samoon , present secretary education Sarita chauhan, they assured for the completion of construction but the work is going on the snails pace. The delegation from the UGC and director college also recommend for the completion of work on war bases.” he further said

Aasiya Khan, a final semester female student, “The lecture rooms of our college are overcrowded and there is no proper sitting facilities available, no place in library where we can learn in free time and no facilities of washrooms for the students and we are forced to use the washroom of the middle school which is a big concern for the female students in our college and number of female students prefer to left the studies.”




When Kashmir News Bureau contacted special Secretary higher education Choudhary Rashid Azam Inqilabi he said, “there is no financial deficiency on our behalf, the funds are allotted to every institutions in valley, as far as women’s degree college is concerned I will look after te issue and solve the problem as soon as possible (KNB)
