5th Day After Geelani’s Demise: Normal Life Resumes in Srinagar

Srinagar 6 September (KNB): Five days after the demise of Hurriyat Leader Syed Ali Geelani normal life has resumed in central Kashmir’s Srinagar district.

As per news agency Kashmir News Bureau reports, vehicular movement (private and public transport) was witnessed across the City as people took to their everyday routines. Shops were thrown open in the heart of the city, Lal Chowk as rush of people was observed in the commercial hub.

The uneasiness and disruption of every day life had left the districts of the valley with a deserted look for last 4 days as a strict lockdown was imposed for security reasons after the death of the SAS Geelani on Wednesday night. Communication blockade was witnessed in Kashmir for the next two days and on Friday, cellular calling and broadband services were restored, however, mobile internet service still remains suspended.

Even though other means of public transport movement has started again in Kashmir, especially in Srinagar today, but train services still remains suspended for the firth consecutive day.

The train service was suspended on Thursday as a “precautionary measure” after the death of Kashmir’s SAS Geelani, who breathed his last at his Hyderpora residence of the City.

Pertinent to mention that as Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Vijay Kumar had said on Friday, the situation in Kashmir has remained peaceful and under control of the authorities for past 5 days.(KNB)
