500 Uri residents migrate amid border Shelling

Srinagar, Feb 23 (KNB): Due to continuous rising escalation on borders , residents of north Kashmir’s frontier have started migrating towards safer locations, officials said.

Director General of Police, SP Vaid on Friday said due to firing and shelling along the Line of Control in Uri, 500 people have started migration towards safer places.

He also said concerned administrative and police officials are at the spot.Taking to social networking site, Twitter, DGP Vaid wrote: “Due to firing/shelling from across in border areas of Uri about 500 people migrate to safer areas. DC/SSP on spot looking after the people.”

Meanwhile the residents have demanded that the government should ensure an end to the ceasefire violations or rehabilitate them at safer places where they can live without fear.

“We would like the governments of India and Pakistan to put an end to ceasefire violations as it has made our lives difficult. In case shelling and firing on the borders continues, the state government should provide us five marla plots in safer places so that we can live in peace,” Ghulam Mohammad Mir, who is putting up at the makeshift migrant camp, said.
